THR participates at the Basque Country Tourism Week

Within the framework of the Tourism Week, the Department of Tourism, Commerce and Consumer Affairs held the event “Tourism competitiveness: Euskadi as a reference”, a space to analyse the results of the Exceltur report, with Euskadi as a success story.

Basque Country Tourism WeekLehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, opened the event, together with the Regional Minister of Tourism, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Sonia Pérez Ezquerra and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto.

Euskadi was a latecomer into the global phenomenon that is tourism for various reasons. And that, far from being a disadvantage, allowed us to reflect and get to the position we have now as a competitive but sustainable industry”, said Regional Minister Sonia Pérez Ezquerra.

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, stressed that the Basque Government integrates the promotion of tourism, local commerce and responsible consumption into the same vision. In this sense, he has ensured that all the actions carried out contemplate this long-term vision in which the commitment to quality, sustainability and excellence in tourism activity is integrated.

Eulogio Bordas, president of THR Innovative Tourism Advisors, responsible for the development of the Strategic Tourism Plan of the Basque Country and José Luis Zoreda, Vice President of Exceltur, also participated in the event. "The Strategic Plan can provide an increase of 1.7 billion euros in tourism revenue for 2030 if implemented successfully" said Eulogio Bordas during his participation.

After their presentations, a round table was held in which they were joined by the Vice Minister of Tourism and Commerce, Isabel Muela.
